Research from which.co.uk has shown that broadband speeds customers receive are far different than the speeds being advertised from broadband providers.
The test that Which? ran tested users with broadband offering "up to 8MB" and found that the average speeds that customers received was just 2.7MB, with the slowest speed being 0.09MB and the highest 6.7MB.
Now the speeds customers receive can vary based on the quality of the line and also the distance they are from the telephone exchange but the results are pretty clear that users don't receive download speeds up with what they should be expecting and are in fact receiving substantially slower speeds.
There was also a call from the Editor of Which? for OFCOM to investigate the issue.
The test was done in 300 households and covered 27 different broadband providers.
