The owners of AOL UK, Time Warner, are reportedly looking to sell off their UK ISP business and move out of the European broadband market. This move would also see Time Warner selling their French & German broadband businesses too.
AOL UK has more than 1.2 million broadband subscribers in the UK with about another million customers using other services from them.
AOL make up a large section of the UK broadband market but with companies such as Talk Talk & Orange Broadband now offering free broadband deals to customers the competition is getting tougher.
Mobile phone companies Vodafone & O2 are potential companies who could take over the UK section of AOL as they bid to follow on from Orange who last week re-branded Wanadoo Broadband to Orange Broadband.
