Virgin Media launches today

8th February 2007

Today has finally seen the launch of Virgin Media that will offer customers a Quad-Play service.
Quad Play will allow customers to receive four services from just one supplier. This includes TV, Broadband, Telephone & Mobile phone. Ideally making it easier for customers to pay and manage their services through just one supplier.
Virgin Media launchVirgin Media are the first company to offer a Quad-Play service which adds allot of competition to the likes of BT & BSkyB who currently offer Triple-Play services.

Virgin Media was created following the merger of ntl:Telewest and Virgin Mobile last year.

Virgin Media plan to roll out their offering nationally aiming to reach 97% of UK households in 2007 that also includes non-cable areas. The main infrastructure they have is cable as that is how ntl:Telewest supplied customers previously.

Customers will have a number of options to choose from when selecting what services they want to receive, with 2 services costing £20, 3 services £30 and all 4 services costing £40 per month.

On the 20th February there will also be the launch of a new interactive TV Channel that will allow it to be a traditional TV channel but also an "On-demand" channel where users can pick and choose what they want to watch.

Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group, said:

"Today's creation of Virgin Media sees a milestone in the history of the media industry and cable in particular. For the first time there is a single brand set to provide a more extensive range of television entertainment, broadband and communication services than previously offered by anyone in the UK. Our transition to Virgin Media has been underway since last July and will continue over the coming months, as we roll out an outstanding 21st century customer experience in home entertainment and communications.
