The average broadband speed we receive in the UK has passed 4Mb according to latest results
According to another broadband comparison site, www.broadband.co.uk, the average broadband speed in the UK is now past 4Mb.
Virgin Media lead the way with the fastest average speed of 6.190Mb, this was closely followed by Be Broadband & O2 Broadband (O2 own Be and as such use the same network) who's average broadband speed was 6.045Mb.
After these the average speeds ranged from 3.413Mb down to 2.249Mb. This goes to show how Virgin's fibre broadband network and also Be & O2's ADSL2+ network have helped boost up the average with their speeds which on the whole tended to be over twice as fast as standard broadband providers who use BT's network.
There are two angles to look at these results, the positive one being that there has been a rise of nearly 1Mb in average broadband speed compared to last year when the test was performed, the other negative angle to look at is that we as consumers are not receiving anyway near the maximum broadband speeds that are being advertised to us.
Hopefully though with Virgin's cable broadband network now offering 50Mb broadband and BT now starting to install fibre broadband we will hopefully really start to see the average broadband speeds continuing to increase.
You can test what speed your broadband is by using our broadband speed test that will tell you both your download and upload speeds.
