BT to pull bid for AOL and leaves way for Sky

16th June 2006

BT have left the way for Sky to acquire AOL as they have pulled out of the race to buy the Time Warner company's AOL UK arm of the business.

BT pull of of bid to buy AOL leaving the way for SkyAlthough we reported Time Warner wanted about £1bn for AOL UK the estimated actual figure is likely to be much closer to £600 million and with one of the main competition pulling out reduces the chances of Time Warner getting a bidding war which they would have liked.

BT already have a large broadband customer base but with Sky looking to launch their own SKY Broadband deals later in the year acquiring AOL UK would be a massive leap and give them a good foothold in the UK broadband market.
