200 Virgin Media customers in Warrington will get to trial the new 50Mb broadband
200 Virgin Media customers in Warrington have been invited by Virgin Media to test their new 50Mb broadband package for 2 months at no extra cost!
The customer testing of this new "XXL" package will eventually result in seeing it rolled out across the Virgin Media network during 2009.
Those customers who take up the 50Mb broadband trial will receive a new modem from Virgin and the free upgrade to the new faster speeds. These customers will then be expected to fill out questionnaires for Virgin about the service in exchange.
Currently there is no pricing information available about how much the new 50Mb broadband will cost but hopefully it will be competitively priced and will no doubt also be available as part of a Virgin bundle of services.
Virgin can offer these faster speeds as they have their own cable network and don't run on the standard copper wire network that BT use. With talk increasing about BT needing to invest in Fibre Broadband so the UK doesn't fall behind with the rest of the world this latest release from Virgin will definitely be something to keep BT on their toes.
