Customers who sign up to a 2-year broadband deal with Orange at a PC World store can now bag themselves a free laptop computer worth £300.
The deal, only available in the 150 PC World stores across the UK, will tie customers in to a 2-year broadband deal with Orange. The Orange broadband deal gives users up to 2MB connection and a 2GB per month download limit for £14.99 per month, with the first 3 months being at half price for just £7.49.
On paper this sounds a superb offer, and to many it will be too much to miss up the chance to get a free laptop. If however you look at the broadband that you will be tied in to for 2 years then it sort of evens itself out a bit.
If you compare to Plusnet Option 2, which is the same price per month at £14.99 you receive an 8MB broadband connection and 8GB download and can have a 1 month contract!
Obviously Orange need to make their offer financially viable hence why they are tying customers up for a 24 month contract, however in recent years we have seen broadband prices tumble and broadband speeds increase, in 2 years time people might be running on 24mb connections with 100GB download limits for the same price as Orange are charging.
The free laptop on offer has a 15.4" widescreen, Celeron processor, 256MB of memory and a 40GB hard drive. The spec is hardly amazing but customers can either choose this or get £300 off a better laptop and pay some towards it.
