The £250 million that was under spent by the BBC's digital switchover fund is to be passed onto the broadband industry to help with making everyone in Britain have broadband access by 2012 it emerged in Alistair Darlings Budget on Wednesday.
The Digital Britain report calls to make sure everyone in Britain has access to a minimum of 2Mb broadband, with current estimates of around 1.5 million UK households unable to achieve a speed anyway near this.
The Budget also announced the approval of a £100 million pilot of next generation fibre network in South Yorkshire as part of the Digital Region scheme that is being co-ordinated vt Yorkshire Forward and will offer a 25Mb broadband connection.
