Karoo hijacking your mis-typed search results

25th March 2008

Karoo, which is part of the K-Com group has started to redirect mistyped URL's that it's customers type in to send them to a page on Ask.com where they will then see a sponsored search result that K-Com will then receive part of the revenues made form this advertising.

Karoo earn from your bad searchesKaroo are obviously pushing this as a useful service and are giving customers the chance to opt-out if they do not like it, although surely the service should have been opt-in instead? The trial started on the 17th March.

For details on how to opt-out Karoo users should visit this page http://www.karoo.co.uk/helpandsupport/dnsoptout/

It should be noted that Tiscali and Orange also practice this service.
