Broadband - Broadband News - BT's profits rise as broadband continues strong growth

BT's profits rise as broadband continues strong growth

26th July 2007

BT today announced a 3% rise in revenue for the first quarter of the year with a continued strong growth in new wave revenue which itself was 11% higher than last year. New wave revenue is generated mainly from networked IT services and broadband and actually accounted for 36% of BT's revenue.

BT profits rise as broadband continues to growBroadband revenue itself grew 19% up to £540 million and has kept BT as the leading broadband provider in the UK.
BT had 459,000 addition broadband connections during this first quarter. As of June 30th 2007 BT had 11.2 million wholesale broadband connections, which includes 2.4 million LLU (Local Loop Unbundled) lines.

These rises show that broadband is continuing to increase in popularity.

Last week BT's Chairman, Sir Christopher Bland, announced that they had been looking in to the possibility of installing fibre optic cable to make broadband speeds of up to 50MB a possibility and with broadband accounting for a large part of BT’s revenue now it would be nice to think that they will follow this through and spend some of the huge profits on doing this.
