Satellite
broadband is similar in the way it works to Sky digital TV. It utilizes
a Satellite to transmit the date and a receiver to receive the data.
For
some people the only available way to get broadband is to get Satellite
broadband. This is because either their local
telephone exchange has not had ADSL enabled or the distance
they are away from their exchange is too far to receive broadband.
This is most likely for those people who live in very remote places.
As
Satellite broadband does require users to have a Satellite dish
and because it is not as widely used as other forms of broadband
(ADSL
& Cable)
the costs of Satellite broadband are usually more expensive. Another
problem with Satellite broadband is that in severe weather conditions
the broadband may be affected.
As
Satellite broadband is not as popular as the other ways of getting
broadband that means that there is not as many providers of Satellite
broadband as there are for standards ADSL or Cable broadband.
There
are different types of Satellite broadband that users can get. There
is:
- 1
Way Satellite broadband
- 2
Way Satellite broadband
1
Way Satellite broadband
As the name of this suggests the broadband can only move one way
with this Satellite broadband package. How it works is to download
users receive the data through the Satellite for the faster speeds
and to upload they do via a dial up account.

2
Way Satellite broadband
This type of Satellite broadband is the quickest to use. It allows
both downloads and uploads to be done via the Satellite so high
speeds can be used in both directions and not just in 1 direction
like in the 1 Way Satellite broadband.
