The roll out of BT’s fibre broadband network continues as they announce the next 63 locations to have their exchanges upgraded.
BT are aiming to have 40% of the population (10 million homes) connected with fibre broadband (BT Infinity is the name of the BT fibre broadband network) by 2012 at a cost of £1.5 billion. Most of these new connection will be FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) that will provide maximum broadband speeds of up to 40Mb, with the lucky few getting FTTH (Fibre To The Home) where broadband speeds of up to 100Mb would be achievable.
Of the 63 new locations, 31 of these are in London or the south east of England and all locations are for densely populated areas where it gives BT the greatest chance of a higher return on investment.
