Virgin Media have been announced as the Official UK broadband partner for the Sony PS4 which we expect will mean that there will be gamer specific broadband deals available from the ISP for those get a Playstaion 4.
The Sony PS4 is due to launch in the UK later this year on the 29th November 2013 and it is set to be a huge seller this Christmas. Sony has not only signed deals with Virgin Media for the UK, but they have deals in place with other ISPs across Europe including Ono, Orange and T-Mobile. This means that currently Sony have the UK, France, Germany & Spain with specific deals in place for their gamers.
There are currently no details of what these special deals and agreements in place are, however Jim Ryan, the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment said that the deals will mean that: “bits of the pipe are left open for gamers”.
Jon James from Virgin Media had this to say on a blog post on the Virgin Media site:
“We’re delighted to say Virgin Media is Sony’s PlayStation 4 UK ISP partner for its hugely-anticipated launch which is now confirmed to be on 29 November. We’re already hard at work with them to make this the best entertainment experience for gamers across the country.
What does that mean exactly? Well, there’s going to be loads of exciting benefits for our customers but we have to keep the details under wraps for the time being. Watch this space for more details…”
In real terms what we are expecting is that those who get a Sony PS4 will be entitled to a gamer specific broadband deal that maybe has a slight reduction but will be focussed to gamers and as such will mean that online games will play with little disruption. However, the majority of PS4 users will already have a broadband connection or may not be in an area that has Virgin Media available, they need not worry though as the PS4 will still work on their current broadband connections.
